For the second part of my California series I wanted to share a “hidden” gem I discovered.
Since it was James’ first time in California, one of the things he wanted to do was see the Hollywood sign up close. However, we were on a bit of a time crunch trying to fit everything in, so hiking trails to get to the sign was out of the question. After doing some extensive research online (while waiting for the Main Street Electrical Parade to start at Disneyland…) I found the best Hollywood sign view that required zero hiking.
The route I decided on was from this article on LAist. However, instead of driving a car and parking on Deronda, I suggest taking an Uber to drop you off at the very top next to the park entrance (3390 Deronda Drive if you’re putting it in your phone!)— then when you need to be picked up, walk all the way down Deronda and call an Uber from there.
Once your car drops you off, there’s a little gate you go through. It looks like it would go straight into someone’s back yard, but it’s actually an entrance to Griffith Park. Voila! The Hollywood sign is right there!
James and I went on a perfect Saturday right before sunset, and it wasn’t too crowded. We were able to get in some really great shots that I had to share with you all.
I just found out that I’m going back to California for work in April and I can’t wait to be home again. Yesterday’s blizzard has me seriously over winter and ready for a change!
Hope you’re staying warm!
